Sessions

Rescues – x rescue, Eskimo rescue, T rescue, over the side rescue, scoop rescue, unconscious casualty, paddle float rescue, self rescue – these are a few of the techniques to get comfortable with. This is a wet session!

Greenland Style Kayaking - this is where sea kayaking originated, with the Eskimo kayak hunters. Paddle with the Greenland paddles and enter into a whole other world of sea kayaking.

Strokes - this session will go through all the strokes techniques required for the ICU level 3 proficiency award. Draw stroke, scull and draw, low brace, low brace turn, sculling for support, stern rudder, sweep strokes, forward paddling, reverse paddling……..

Open session - this is your session, i.e. if you want to work on something specific this is you chance, just book this session and let us know what it is you want to work on. Otherwise we will be directed by the weather conditions that we’ve got on the day – It’ll be all about handling the conditions.

Landings and towing - be prepared for the unexpected, you’ve got to get off the water and no there’s no slipway. It’s always best to practice before you need it - it will happen sometime. Towing is another one of those dreaded situations and where ropes and kayaks are involved it always gets tricky, so practice makes perfect.

Incident management - combining the skills of rock landings, rescues and towing for when the going gets tough. What to do when your buddy gets sea sick, how to handle a rescue with a dislocated shoulder, how to deal with a hole in a boat, a lost paddle, a hatch cover that sinks to the bottom……

Rock hopping - Helmets required – working your way in, out and around the rocks is the best way to up your manoeuvring skills. This session will cover all the necessary strokes such as forward sweep, reverse sweep, bow rudder, hanging draw, sculling draw, low brace turn and will help you link strokes together.
